Welcome to the Pryors

Some 50 miles south of Billings and a few miles north of the Wyoming border is a mountain range unlike any other. The Pryor Mountains are a 78,000-acre high-country zone, partly in the Custer National Forest, near the Big Horn River Canyon and Yellowtail Reservoir. The surrounding dry lands uplift through deep isolated canyons to sub-alpine forests and meadows -- from whose heights the visitor can see mountain ranges, vast stretches of prairie lands, the Big Horn Basin, and breathtaking vistas. The Pryors are a valuable community resource that we all enjoy many ways -- hiking, bird-watching, horseback riding, hunting, grazing, and motorized recreation. But if we allow an atmosphere of "anything goes" to rule the Pryors, soon there will be nothing left for any of us.

The Pryor Mountains help make Montana special. Big, open and beautiful, the Pryors offer a quiet escape for all sorts of Montanans. But they face a problem: unmanaged ATV and dirt bike riders scar the fragile, arid land and shatter the sense of quiet freedom. The Pryors Coalition works to strike a balance between traditional uses and responsible motorized use. If we don't act now, the Pryors we know and love could be lost forever to the noise and dust of motorized crowds. Please join us to protect the land that belongs to all of us.
